3D-PRINTED FASHION

I wanted to combine my interests for both additive manufacturing and fashion engineering and thought that 3D-printed shoes would be the perfect way to start! This summer, in my internship in Milan, I learned how to digitize and rematerialize different garments such as jackets. I worked with the labs in Politecnico di Milano to 3D print clothing. As many know, textiles and their manufacturing processes contribute a great deal to waste issues. 3D printing is emerging as a popular manufacturing process as it reduces waste and is compatible with eco-friendly materials. It also allows us to realize complex geometries and push the boundaries of manufacturing. In my projects, I am also making use of generative design software to create optimal structures to support the weight of the wearer while minimizing mass.

"Rematerializing Fashion Cultural Capital Through Additive Manufacturing Techniques"

This project is aimed at studying and "reverse engineering" a cultural heritage garment from the Gianfranco Ferré archive to find innovative ways to recode and re-materialize it through additive manufacturing technologies.
